Nature
The spiral symbol fascinates mankind since primeval times. Is this maybe true because of the fact that humans get in contact with spirals in nature in various, breath-taking ways? Shells, snail-shells and nautilus serve as most apparent examples from the animal world. Please remember as well the enormous natural phenomena such as water vortexes or tornadoes: they all take the form of the spiral. The spiral arrangement of the fir cone or sunflower cores is less obvious but similarly captivating.
Also the sun describes - seen from the earth - an ascending and rising spiral over the year. Air moves as wind in spirals. Also the low and high pressure areas are helical.
Symbolism
Depending on whether the spiral turns clockwise or anti-clockwise, the meaning of this symbol changes:
The anti-clockwise rotating spiral is the symbol of involution. It represents the movement to the centre, towards the centre of the energy.
A clockwise rotating spiral moves outward. Here, the spiral symbolizes progressive movement, development, personal development and turning to life. It also represents infinite movement.
